Fairy Cake

This was made for a friend's 4 year old grandaughter. I had so much fun making it. I was able to fully indulge myself in all things fairy, pink and sparkly to my heart's content!

The only restriction I was given was that the fairies shouldn't be fat! So I tried very hard to produce dainty fairies - I had to give in and use florist wire for the legs of the standing fairies in the end but I was really pleased with the overall effect.

The cake itself is vanilla sponge (coloured pink of course) layered together with cream cheese frosting, the castle was modelled out of cake pop mix, when it is chilled I find it really good for modelling with.

The whole thing was iced with rolled fondant, the figures and flowers were also modelled from fondant and then I used royal icing to piped the details.

I was actually quite sad to see it go, however onwards and upwards, this weeks challenge is to produce a cake that is a  monkey riding on the back of a tortoise!
